  • what kind of tool are you?

gogb posted a pretty interesting comment on my latest pulse thing. and it got me to thinking - in the grand scheme of life, what kind of tool do you view yourself as?  now as a guy who's used a power tool or 20,000 in his day...  i've had sometime to ponder this intricate nuance of life...  when i started in the trades as a young lad in the early 90's makita made the latest and greatest stuff...  but then, just like that - there stuff was crap.  milwaukee was the place to be, so i loaded up my trucks and moved them all over chicago...  then milwaukee started to suck and we scrambled - porter cable had the best routers and sanders for a while; panasonic made great cordless drills, probably had the best runs of all my tools; fein had vacuums and sanders; well that's really not the point...

i mean are you a drill?  are you a powerwasher?  are you an oscillating sander?  a calputator (that's calculator)? some kinda knife? or pneumatic vibrator (used to eliminate air pockets/bubbles in concrete formwork...) or i guess if you're into that kinda thing... you could view it otherwise - not sure which function came first...  (pun intended)

yesterday was a little bit of a point of freedom for me.  i've been involved in a legal matter for almost seven years - long, long, tedious and stupid story...  but written closing statements were due by 5 pm yesterday - and now it's for the judge to decide - but i got to thinking...  there's a lot of tools out there - and one in particular (not mine, i might add, i'd consider him a close personal friend) but lawyers...  in general, those - are some serious - tools.  and what they've single-handidly (whatever the spelling is) done to our economy; court systems; etc...  boggles my mind...  what a waste... tools...
